Skating personalities

EARLY AGE WONDER : Vidushi Rawat

skating personalities in Chandigarh : Vidushi RawatIn 2011, a young girl received State award on the eve of republic
day by UT administrator Shivraj Patil for her outstanding achievements
 in roller skating.
In the audience her parents could not stop blushing & thinking for
the moment when they decided to give their daughter Vidushi Rawat
a pair of skates , as a gift for her fourth b’day.
The child took an instant liking for the gear, and after a few months of skating coaching classes at school, she knew she found her passion, for life..

THEN THERE WAS NO LOOKING BACK

Then began the  not so easy journey of hard work as they say in terms
of sports person blood,sweat,tear... getting up at 4 a.m. irrespective
of whether without even a miss of a day.
Her hard word began reaping fruit when she won one gold and a silver medal in her first Chandigarh State Roller Skating Championship the same year.
“Just a couple of months after starting with skating in 2007, Vidushi participated in her first local competition and won a silver medal in the rink race event for the under-6 girls. The feat gave her a lot of confidence, and also assured us that skating was her calling,” shares a proud father Barinder Singh Rawat.
“I cherish my national championship medals the most. It’s not only because these were my first at the event, but also because the gold won by me was the first by any UT girl in the last eight years,” says the city’s ‘girl on wheels’

The 15 year old may be too young for it but she is ruling state champion for the last five years, with her swelling tally boasting of more than 200 medals won at different local, state, zonal and national level tournaments.

ASIAN RECORD HOLDER

One more feather in the cap : she was even part of the team for setting up the Asian record for skating for nonstop 51 hours!!
On her ultimate aim? “To represent India at international events,” comes a quick reply from Vidushi, who idealizes ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal.
Her coach Chander Sehgal, to share the same views  that Vidushi can achieve greater heights in both national and international events.
